On April 12 at Dailes Music House, this musical conversation will bring together Intars Busulis and Gints Pabērzs, united in a lineup created especially for this occasion – “Intars Busulis Lush Life Quintet”.

Joined by pianist Matīss Žilinskis, double bassist Toms Poišs and drummer Rūdolfs Dankfelds, the quintet offers a broad perspective on the jazz and popular music canon. The program draws on the legacy of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, the bossa nova lyricism of Stan Getz and João Gilberto, as well as the musical dialogues of Paul Simon and Michael Brecker, Kurt Elling and Branford Marsalis, and Gregory Porter and Tivon Pennicott.

The name “Lush Life” is a deliberate reference to Billy Strayhorn’s iconic composition and to some of the most distinctive male vocal and tenor saxophone recordings of recent decades. A key source of inspiration is the legendary 1963 album John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, still regarded as one of the most refined recordings in jazz history.

“Intars Busulis Lush Life Quintet” embodies the core idea of Pink Noise Riga – exploring the roots of great music while reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. This exclusive program, created solely for the festival, sees the interplay of Busulis and Pabērzs revive the spirit of jazz aristocracy with fresh, intriguing energy.
